This is why I am so pleased to see another author enter the genre. Carrie Vaughn has written a story entitled "Kitty and the Midnight Hour" from a female werewolf's perspective and has seeded the story with quite a bit of humor... The premise of the story is that Kitty, an involuntary were, has the audacity to start up a latenight radio talk-show where she acts rather like a cross of Dr. Phil and Dr. Ruth for supernaturals. Initially normal folk believe it is just a gimick but eventually learn that there really are monsters out there as more and more "out" themselves on the air. Obviously, this upsets some normals and supernormals... While not great literature, it is enjoyable and funny in spots. It also has a very interesting presentation of the mindset that enfolds a lycanthrope as they deal with the human psychi and the animal psychi.

OK I admit it. I'm one of those losers who got hooked on The Anita Blake Mysteries by Laura K. Hamilton. I enjoyed (and still do) reading about an intelligent, strong and sexy woman having to deal with "Things that go Bump in the Night". As the series has progressed I've begun to loose my enjoyment of them, however, as they have left the mystery, suspense and romance behind for increasingly booring softcore pornography.
