 Urban Shaman, written by C. E. Murphy, is the first of a series of books following the exploits of one Joanne Walker. She starts out as a garage mechanic for the Seattle PD but after an encounter of the almost fatal kind with the supernatural becomes aware of the fact that her Irish and indian heritage has gifted her with the gifts of powerful shaman. Yeah, I know. It sounds like a bit much and reads a little like you are watching someone's roleplaying game. But as I went along I actually found myself enjoying the story! It was a literary potatochip. In fact, I really couldn't eat just one and wound up getting the next two books as well. 
Can't say it was good literature, but it was enjoyable.
